Liquid Latex

To capture the shine, texture of my bleach drawings I have began to research into possible materials I could use. Looking into the option of using Liquid latex on knit. it is something I have never seen done before.

I first experimented on a simple knit sample in white cotton. however it didn't have the effect i wanted, and when i incorporated it with  a mixture of tarns in a sample it didn't look as i wanted.

With this i have decided that it would be better to incorporate a viscose or a clear elastic to give it movement and the colours can reflect off the shine.

Bleach Study

The following pictures sow the changes the bleach went through as it developed and dried. This is also another take on 'change'. The way things change.

Piercing Birghtness

Piercing Brightness is an amateur Science Fiction film, this doesn't relate directly to my work. But when I was researching ideas on the Internet I came across this image..

It is a Disguise/Costume in the film. It reminds me though.. of small plugs that you put in your ears when they have been stretched.

This gave me a range of ideas to develop into drawings, to capture the shine of the metal I had an idea of using bleach - which I have worked with on previous projects. I drew a range of designs using bleach and dye.

The bleach left different colours developing, creating a range of shades and tones to work from. I also took photographs of the stages the bleach went through.

Development

This week I started to look at Body art and it gave me the idea to paint piercings onto a face - a canvas in some ways, to change the way she looks.

After a tutorial today, i discussed my work and came to the conclusion that this would be difficult to translate into knit, so I now intend to take a new direction, looking at body art, costume and disguise.

Barnual Michael

Barnual is a Body art artist, working with glow paints to create camouflage - changing bodies.

His work Inspires me greatly, and gives me the idea of hiding things on the surface.

Mood Board

This is my mood board that I will present to Sam Leutton on Monday. i have used  my most inspiring images that link to my project the best and created a colour pallet from this, i have also found inspiration from designer Sandra Backlund who's work i find particularly in the above picture as it is textured and 3D which I want to achieve in my Knitting.

Leutton Postle Development

This week I have started to look at images of stretching and piercings in the African tribes and develop shapes, markings and colours from them.

Here i looked at the mouth stretching, which is considered to be attractive - the bigger the stretching is, the more attractive you are. i picked out beading shapes and blobbed a pattern so that the paint created shapes above the surface - 3D.

Here I looked at the colour on the fringing - it reminds me of dip dye in hair you see today, i dipped paper in some paint to portray this.

Here I have picked out the shapes and marks through my research to give me a starting point of translating my work into knit.

My next step is to pick out techniques to translate to knit - considering what these samples would develop into and to create a mood board in which I will present my ideas to Sam Leutton.

Working From Museum Photo's

This week I have began to draw and develop my work from the photographs I took at the museum, i mostly looked and puled out shapes and snippets of colour.

On this page i looked at the marks and creases of the fabric and pulled out the colour from the beading.

From the first page i then began to print the marks using paint to see what marks of my own I can develop

I have started to piece a colour pallet together from my photographs.

After developing these images this week i feel like I need more imagery and research to develop a colour pallet and idea's for samples.
