CRYSTAL DEVELOPMENT

This week I have been looking at natural magic and crystals in particular, crystals for healing, natural crystals and rocks.

 

 I love the different/varied shapes of crystals and the different natural colours within them,I tried to capture the colour within some of my own drawings using water colour onto cartridge paper but found this challenging as I couldn't get the fluid movements from within the crystals.

Although i think these drawings are successful in capturing the shapes i feel it needs work and i will have to find a method to interpret the colour movement and shape.

EXPLORING GYPSY CULTURE

Exploring gypsy culture - meeting up with my group we have decided to look into Gypsy in light of natural magic/crystals. it gives it a cool edge and its different. i think earthy natural colours are the way forward as gypsy's where very in touch with nature. I intend to look further into the crystal side of the theme and then work to develop a muse from there.

EXPLORING GYPSY THEME

From looking at the tapestry's I feel I need to explore Gypsy culture further, looking at Traditional Romany Gypsy's in particular. I Looked at the clothing of the Gypsy ladies and found that it was very layered and draped and alot of the clothing was paisley patterned.

The clothing is all very over sized and exaggerated drapes. The menswear being very similar. looking closer at the clothing I like the paisley print - alike the kind of tapestry designson the clothing.

In the past Kenzo have also designed inspired by Gypsy/traveller lifestyle. our group needs to find a way of making our theme fresh and new - something Kenzo haven't done or seen before.

FIRST GROUP MEETING

Today I met with my group to for the first time to share our ideas on the brief. All of us had amazing ideas and are enthusiastic about our subject. it is apparent that our ideas are also very different. Two members of the group are looking in Gypsy/Travellers. This had given me an idea to combine the two through gypsy art. After researching into the type of art they produce it was the detail hand made tapestrys that caught my eye, majority have flower/nature pattern. Examples below.

with this in mind I then had a go at digitally creating my own tapestry with my images.

The pattern in a tepestry is very repetative and that is what i have tried to recreate here. this could be vastly impoved and have more detail which is something I will look into developing further.

ENITIAL IDEAS

unit x launch - college 2 - kenzo

Today was the unit launch of the kenzo project. After the presentation I think this is going to be a challenge for me (a textile student) as the brief is largely fashion based and I dont have much experience in Fashion, but this is the reason I have chose this Brief.

My enitital ideas for the brief are looking at Nature - the changes from autumn (twigs, leaves on the ground) to spring (in bloom, blossom). I Intend to now start to research into this through primary and secondary sources.
